Green Singer Finch - Description
Green Singer Finch

The green singer finch is a pretty, African finch with a penchant for singing. However, it's not green but yellow and is closely related to the canary (hence its alternative name: yellow-fronted canary).

We currently keep 2 pairs. They are easy to sex as the male is much brighter than the female, the latter having a faint black band round the throat (sometimes broken and appearing as a necklace of dots). Ours neither trouble other birds nor seem unduly troubled by others. Green Singer Finch

They are hardy and prefer to roost on small branches. They build nests in cups which they line with nesting material such as coire and sisel. The female sits on the nest with the male remaining close by to chase of anything that gets too close. He also feeds the female and tidies the nest as she is sitting. So far. though, they have not hatched out any chicks.

They are easy to feed as their staple is a mixture of small seeds - we use a finch mix - and softbill food. They also enjoy fresh fruit.
